How It All Began - After attending Breakaway Youth Camps for several years, a group of adults formed a band called "Audience of One" and started playing contemporary Christian music at a monthly Breakaway Service in the Youth Room. When Beechwood decided to start a Contemporary Worship Service in 2003, this core group became the "Praise Band" for that service. Over the next 5 years, the Praise Band expanded to 9 members and there are now 2 Youth Bands. The Lord has blessed us at Beechwood with an abundance of musical talent. It is exciting to see how God is working in this area of Worship and Ministry.

New Name - In 2006, the Praise Band adopted the name "Finding Amos" based on Amos 5:23-24:

"Away with your hymns of praise. There is only noise in my ear. I will not listen to your music no matter how lovely it is and instead I want to see mighty flooded judgment, a river of righteous living that will never run dry." (NLT)

God is not concerned with how well we play or how good we sound. What is important to God is how we live. This is a "bible truth" that has impacted our attitudes and the direction our band has taken.

More Than Just a Band - This last year, 2007, we started focusing more on leading ourselves and the congregation to worship rather than just playing songs. We have renewed our commitment that worship is the giving of our entire self, our thoughts and our emotions, to God’s use. Worship is not only what happens at the Church, but what happens at home, on the job and wherever we go. Worship is 24/7. This has had such a tremendous impact on our band, that we have moved in the direction of becoming a Praise and Worship Team rather than a Praise Band.

Our Purpose - It is our desire as a Praise and Worship Team to live a lifestyle of worship; to be obedient to the Holy Spirit; and to create an atmosphere for believers to become more intimate with our Savior and to allow the Holy Spirit to move non-believers so they can have the desire to come into HIS presence.

Ministry Opportunities - We lead the musical worship each Sunday morning at 8:30am and once each month during the 6:00pm worship hour. We are also open to opportunities to lead worship and minister to our community. April, 2008 will be our 4th year to provide Christian music during the North Jefferson Women's Center's Walk For Life. We have also participated in community events and led worship in other Churches.

If you have an interest in becoming a part of this ministry, vocally or instrumentally, contact one of the Team. Currently, there are no full-time openings but we do have opportunities for fill-ins when one of the Team members is out. We practice on Sun afternoons at 4:30pm.
