Here is just a brief synopsis of the trip. We packed our luggage Fri evening and left early Sat morning. Andy and I drove the Beechwood bus for the 8 hour trip to Ohio. After lunch in Kentucky at the "Best Buns in Town", we arrived at our motel around 4:00. The motel was not bad with an indoor pool and hot tub, which was used a lot. I was disappointed in the continental breakfast which was only cereal and bagels. That evening, the VBS Team made a run to the church and decorated for VBS, then it was off to CiCi's Pizza for supper. Sun morning we attended the 9:00am service at Sycamore Ridge. They have 2 contemporary services with Sunday School in between. Micah played guitar for them and did a great job. After a quick lunch at White Castle "yuk", a group of us went to a Cincinnati Reds game. It was a boring game until the bottom of the ninth when the Reds won it with a home run. Monday through Friday was pretty much the same schedule. The Beechwood bus was designated as the VBS transport. We left the motel each morning at 8:00am for the 9:00-12:00 VBS. I helped Sheila McAnally (Liberty) with Missions, mainly running the DVD and sound. We averaged 24 kids each day. Corey Garrett (Liberty), also known as the "Choir Nazi", did an outstanding job keeping everything organized and flowing smoothly. After VBS, we drove to the construction site which was only about 2 miles away. After lunch, one of the pastors gave a short devotion. I spent Mon - Thur afternoons hanging and mudding sheetrock. This was my first time to work with sheetrock and it wasn't difficult at all. It was a great experience and I look forward to going again next year. |
